Sky Rocketing - House Rentals Meeting
On the occasion of the May Day had organized a meeting on “Sky Rocketing – House Rentals” at Dakshinamoorthy Auditorium, P S Higher Secondary School.
On the dais, M S Udayamurthy – President of Makkal Sakthi Eiyakkam , N S Venkatraman – Trustee of Nandhini Voice of deprived, A K Venkatsubramanian – Catalyst Trustee and N L Rajah – Senior Advocate. The meeting had centered on the most important topic of the common man which would even outbeat the heat.
Udayakumar, Lecturer (Visually Challenged) in Prsedency College Chennai had focused on the growing menace of the brokers who are demanding house rent without any kind of reasoning. All these brokers have some linkage with political circles which gives them the additional strength and tend to behave like a local leader not heeding anyone in the process. In the past year or so the rental has gone by nearly 70% as was discussed.
Also those with some physical ailments find it extremely difficult to find a house for rent as they find the owners reluctant to let it to them. This is another aspect which is worth pondering about in the interest of the lesser god ones.
On this occasion, M S Udayamurthy – President of Makkal Sakthi Eiyakkam said the government should gear up and take some steps to frame some set of policies to prevent the house rentals from increasing and keep it under check.
N L Rajah Senior Advocate said that TNHB sought to increase the rentals from Rs.2 per sq.ft to Rs.5 per Sq.Ft but was rejected citing the conditions by the court. Also that the government should regulate the real estate by not increasing the guidelines of the land but keeping the Land prices under check as the best solution to the problem.
In the end of the meeting, Nandhini voice of deprived passed some resolutions demanding some immediate actions from the government to control the rising prices in rentals. Electricity Board should initiate action to prevent oversubscription of the charges from the tenants. Also the tenants should have basic amenities like bath and toilets inside the house.0
