General - Is it end of the tunnel?

What a dramatic sequence of events that we have seen in the last month or so? Finally looks like it is all over for the great general turned politician, who else but Gen Parvez Musharraf.

After he had taken control of the nation by the military upsurge and proclaiming that the country needed to be brought into shape before handing over to the democratic rule. In the meantime, US had started the attack against Iraq which helped him to gain some ground as to clear the Al-Qaeda from his soil. He also tried to proclaim himself the president by changing some of the rules by force of power. It did not last long under the pressure of US Senate internally which needed to have head of the state under democratically elect. This meant that he had to call for the elections.

When he did that the powerful leaders presence in the country erstwhile Benazir and Nawaz Sharif were imminent. This signified trouble for the President that with the entry of them he will transfer power to the winner in the democratic elect. He may have been involved in the controversial incident of the year – killing of Benazir Bhutto.

This was the final nail in the coffin as far I am able to visualize from the distance am looking on quietly. The writing was on the wall which this incident prior to the election had swung the election away from the general.

It will be nice passage of time to see the transfer of power into the democratic head of state and also how he handles the situation from here on.
