Maharashra Music Festival in Chennai

Dharma Paripalan Sabha of the Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Koil conducted the 19th Annual Cultural festival under The Maharashtra Association on 1st and 2nd March 2008 for the celebrations of Sri Samartha Ramdas Navami to promote the traditional music of Maharashtra in a bid to create more awareness as well spread the light of NadhaBrahm.
It started with prayer and welcome address and list of participants were Cuddalore Sri Gopi Bhagavathar & Party , Kovai Sri Jayaraman & Party , Bhakthaswaraa Bhajan Mandali –Chennai , Geetanjali – Pune and with Aarthi & Mahaprasad concluded the first day of the event.
The next day featured “Warkari Sampradayik Harikirthan” by G Raghunath Doss, Sro O S Sundar & Party, Bhakti Dhara. Following which the Chief Guest Smt Pratibha Paranjape, Pune honoured Cuddalore Sri Gopi Bhagavathar.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr S Devaji Rao and also had a magazine sponsored by Sri Krishna Sweets as regards to the Poojas and Festivals of Maharashtra.
This two day event kept the audience enthralled and were treated to some amazing performances and brought the nuances of the Maharashtrian Classical Music as well. It would certainly go a long way towards to the enhancement of the popularity of the music of all kinds.
As the maharasthrian style would be say “Pudcha Varsh Laukar Ye! (in Marathi)”

Pamban Swamigal was born on Pamban near Rameswaram for Mr. Sattappa Pillai and Mrs. Sengamala ammai in the year 1850. The name given to him by his parents was Appavu. Story of Thiruvidanthai Temple

The third incarnation of Mahavishnu is in the form of a boar called Varaha. There are many shrines dedicated to Varaha and one such temple is Thiruvidanthai, near Mahabalipuram. The presiding deity is Lord Lakshmi Varaha and his divine consort is Komalavalli Thayar. The temple is rich in puranic lore. Sage Kalava, believed to have 360 daughters, lived at this place which was an agraharam those days (place where Brahmins live). To get his daughters married was a Herculean task and this he surrendered to the Lord Mahavishnu, known for his benevolence, assumed the form of a Brahmachari (bachelor) and visited. St Anthony Shrin, Palavakkam Chennai

St Anthony Shrine’s humble origin dates back to the year 1997 when on 24th February, the Catholic residents of Palkalainagar, Palavakkam, enthusiastically erected a thatched shed in honour of St. Anthony with permission and blessings from the late Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, Most Rev. Dr. Arul Das James, and under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Fr. Vincent Chinnadurai, then Parish Priest of St. Joseph's Church, Erukanchery.From 27th February, 1997 onwards, Rev. Fr. P.M.
